GUELPH, ON (September 16, 2025) — The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) is working to keep pets safe by offering a low-cost microchip clinic on Saturday, September 20th, to help make it easier to bring lost pets back home.

During the in-store event, the GHS adoptions team invites the public to spend time with adoptable pets of all ages, breeds and energy levels. With space for meet-and-greets, potential new pet parents can take the time to find just the right match.
With staff and volunteers available to help potential new pet parents, visitors can spend time with the cats, kittens, and even small pets like rabbits and guinea pigs available for adoption. Adopting pets can help improve the health and wellness of people with their special brand of unconditional love. Pets get their people off the couch and make ideal colleagues for remote workers. Caring for pets fosters values for children such as responsibility and selflessness.
“At the heart of every adoption is an animal who just needs a chance and a community that cares enough to give it,” said Jane Dawkins, Director of Communications & Community Engagement at the Guelph Humane Society. “Guelph has always been a place where compassion lives. Through partnerships like this one with PetSmart Charities of Canada, we’re able to connect more animals with the people who will give them the love and stability they deserve.”

“Pets are family and bring so much joy and companionship to our lives,” said Heidi Marston, director of Pet Placement Initiatives at PetSmart Charities of Canada. “But adopting a pet not only adds benefits to your own life; it’s also a gift to your community. Making room in your heart and home for a pet frees up room for another pet to enter the shelter, so you’re really saving two lives — while also supporting the animal welfare professionals that care for so many lost and lonely pets. We’re proud to work alongside partners such as the Guelph Humane Society, to make meaningful connections, giving more pets in need people to love.”
Come and meet the more than 30 homeless animals looking for their forever families this National Adoption Week, including five-year-old Kicia (in photo), who arrived at GHS in so much leg pain she was unable to climb into her litter box to use it. After 119 days in care and two intensive surgeries, one to amputate her badly damaged leg, she is now ready to find a new loving home to call her own.
