July 24, 2025 (Guelph, ON) – Pets are family, and can bring hope, companionship and unconditional love to their people. Adopting a pet in need of a home can also impact communities, alleviating strain on overcrowded shelters. That’s why the Guelph Humane Society (GHS) will bring adoptable pets to PetSmart at 183 Silvercreek Parkway in Guelph Monday July 21st until Sunday, July 27th for PetSmart Charities of Canada® National Adoption Week, taking place July 21 – 27. GHS aims to find homes for more than 20 kittens and cats during the event.

To help alleviate costs associated with preparing pets for adoption, GHS received a grant recently from PetSmart Charities of Canada for $60,000. Since receiving the funds 113 cats have been supported with services including vaccinations, microchips, nourishment, and enrichment and have found loving homes. More than 400 thousand pets have been adopted across Canada in PetSmart stores with support from PetSmart Charities of Canada.
PetSmart Charities of Canada connects adoption partners such as GHS with local PetSmart stores to bring adoptable pets into Adoption Centres and for meet-and-greets. These include pets of all ages, breeds, temperaments, and energy levels. Staff and volunteers are available to help make ideal matches considering lifestyle and other preferences such as energy levels, personalities, sizes, etc.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the generous support of PetSmart Charities of Canada,” said Lisa Veit, Executive Director of the Guelph Humane Society. “Thanks to partners like them, GHS helped more than 3,300 animals last year and brought nearly 900 new families together in Guelph and Wellington County. Their support makes it possible for us to provide lifesaving shelter and care to animals with nowhere else to turn. This year, we’re aiming even higher.”
“Our local shelter and rescue partners are overflowing with animals looking for people to love. Adopting or fostering a pet not only enriches your life but is the best way to support your community and local partners, like the Guelph Humane Society, in their lifesaving work,” said Heidi Marston, director of pet placement at PetSmart Charities of Canada. “There is nothing like the unconditional love of a pet! Please stop by your neighbourhood PetSmart store and meet your new best friend.”
