Lyra Update Video:
Lyra arrived at the Guelph Humane Society (GHS) in immense pain. This sweet senior had been living with untreated, severely painful abscesses in her mouth. By the time she reached us, the infection had swollen the right side of her face and had begun to spread into her jawbone.
And yet, even in that condition, Lyra still leaned in gently for comfort. She trusted us, even through her pain and discomfort.
Our veterinary partners determined she will likely require a full mouth extraction, a complex and expensive surgery where almost all her teeth must be removed to stop the infection and finally allow her to heal. Today, Lyra is undergoing the first major step of that journey: the removal of the abscesses and most of her teeth. It’s the only option left to end her suffering. But recovery will be hard. At her age, healing from such trauma and learning to live without teeth will take time. Lyra will need weeks of specialized care, gentle handling, and ongoing medical treatment. She cannot do it without you.
Your compassion can change everything for Lyra. With your support, we can lift the burden of pain she has carried for far too long and give her a real chance at a healthy, happy future.
We expect the surgery alone will cost $4,000, which doesn’t include specialized after care. We need your help to give Lyra the second chance she deserves.
