May we introduce Morgan, the beautiful attentive 3 1/2 yr old spayed female Collie/Shepherd who weighs 63 pounds.
Morgan has been in our care for quite sometime in a foster home as she was surrendered with her requiring further tests and treatment for an undiagnosed autoimmune disease, She was taken to a veterinary skin specialist for an assessment where more meds were prescribed. A biopsy was required for her as well. She was placed on GHS Facebook page where Morgan’s case was announced with a plea for donations to help get her the biopsy to get a proper diagnosis. Hwy 24 Vet Clinic answered this plea and have taken her on medically ever since, providing her with her skin biopsy, many medications and follow up appointments for no charge!!
Morgan was diagnosed with Pemphigus Foliaceus. This is a life long auto immune condition. The patient develops crusts, ulcers around the eyes, ears, foot pads, anus and in Morgan’s case, her tongue. She was being monitored with a medication that was later weaned down and has recently started an immunosuppresent medication which she will require for life.
At this time, we are still monitoring her for changes then eventually wean her off to the lowest effective dose to control her symptoms. She may have flare ups throughout her life. She will need a home that is financially prepared to provide her necessary medication for the rest of her years. She is also on a special veterinary diet.
Back to Morgan’s personality. She loves walking above all else, the outdoors, playing with tennis balls, car rides. She has lived with kids 9 and 12. She can be reactive with other dogs in and outside of the house, but she seems to pick and choose dogs she gets along with in the home, therefore, she could potentially live with another canine sibling! Morgan is looking for a home who enjoys the outdoors and will offer the commitment she requires.
Morgan is currently in a foster home. If you are interested in adopting Morgan, please call the shelter at 519-824-3091 or email adoptions@guelphhumane.ca to speak to the Animal Care Coordinator for further information. An appointment can be made for you to come and meet this sweetheart!
