GUELPH, ON (November 27, 2025) – The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) is calling on the community to help raise funds this Giving Tuesday to provide lifesaving care for animals in need. The first $15,000 raised will be matched thanks to the generous support of Helmutz Landscape & Interlock, the GHS board of directors and a local family foundation.

On average, GHS provides shelter, medical treatment, and compassionate care for approximately 150 homeless animals each day. That is 150 mouths to feed, 150 veterinary care plans to follow, 150 lives to change. Many arrive frightened, malnourished and looking to experience kindness for the first time.

Two of those animals were Gemma and Daisy.

Gemma and Daisy arrived earlier this year in critical condition: emaciated, dehydrated and weak. Their ribs were visible beneath their thin coats, and their bodies were so fragile that even feeding them carried risk. GHS staff developed a specialized refeeding plan involving small, frequent meals, constant monitoring and round-the-clock care. Over time, they slowly regained strength and began to trust again.

“This level of care takes tremendous time, expertise and resources,” said Lisa Veit, Executive Director, GHS. “It is only possible because of the generosity of supporters in our community. Donations truly transform the lives of animals like Gemma and Daisy.”

To help meet this year’s Giving Tuesday goal, Helmutz Landscape & Interlock, members of the GHS Board of Directors, and a local family foundation will match the first $15,000 donated between November 25th and Giving Tuesday on December 2nd. That means a gift of $100 becomes $200, and a gift of $250 becomes $500. These funds support the animals who rely on GHS for safety and care.

Giving Tuesday is one of the most important fundraising moments of the year for GHS. Donations made this week help to ensure that each animal who comes through the doors receives the medical attention, behavioural support and compassionate care they need.

“Your support is not just a donation; it is a lifeline,” Veit said. “When our community gives, animals in crisis get a second chance.”
