Guelph Humane Society invites the public to step up for animals in need, inspired by new Impact Report.

April 25, 2025. (Guelph, ON) – This Saturday, April 26, the Guelph Humane Society (GHS) invites the community to take kindness to locations across Guelph with Paws on Pavement, a citywide fundraiser aimed at giving vulnerable animals the second chances they deserve.

Lia (Dog, 77 days in care), currently available for adoption.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., GHS staff and volunteers will be at four community hubs—Stone Road Mall, Royal City Brewing Company, Canadian Tire (Stone Road), and Zehrs on Clair Road collecting donations, sharing stories, and showing how simple acts of generosity can change lives.

The event comes on the heels of GHS’s inaugural 2024 Impact Report, which offers a powerful look at the shelter’s work and the generosity that fuels it.

“On any given day, about 150 animals are in our care,” says Lisa Veit, Executive Director at GHS. “That care adds up to more than 55,000 days, or 1.3 million hours, of shelter, nourishment, and love every year. These are more than numbers. These are second chances, made possible by our community.”

In 2024, GHS supported 3,346 animals and provided 2,279 days of no-cost emergency boarding for pets belonging to individuals facing crisis. These outcomes are made possible by donors who believe every life matters.

What makes Paws on Pavement special is its grassroots spirit—bringing the mission of GHS into the everyday places where people live, shop, and gather. GHS has also placed donation cans at 12 supporting business locations in Guelph, Elora and Fergus. All funds raised during the event stay in the community, directly supporting the animals at GHS.

“Local pets need local heroes,” adds Veit. “When you stop by one of our locations you’re doing more than making a donation. You’re giving an animal the future they deserve. We hope to see you out there.”

Whether you’re picking up groceries, enjoying a Saturday stroll, or meeting friends for a coffee, residents are encouraged to stop by, say hello, and donate. Can’t make it out? Donations are also gratefully accepted online at guelphhumane.ca
